REAL GIRLS ROCK: Summer Workshops for Girls Ages 13-15

Celebrating Authenticity in a World of Posers

July 25-29, 2016  9am-3:30pm

Come join us for a 5 day intensive portrait workshop led by Corinne Schippert, co-owner of Schippert+Martin Photography.  Work closely with Corinne to get lots of great tips and insight.  We are limiting this class to only 4 students so you’ll get lots of one-on-one attention.

Each day will include an assignment or two which we will shoot together and edit in the studio’s workspace where we have state of the art Apple computers and Adobe Lightroom software. Working outdoors and indoors, we will take trips to interesting spots in Arlington and the vicinity.   We will have a longer day on Wednesday or Thursday, weather dependent, taking a trip to the North Shore in the late afternoon/evening for a picnic, swim and picture taking expedition!

Drawing inspiration from examples of portraits by famous photographers, we will learn the basics of working with a SLR digital camera and how to capitalize on it’s unique features to get interesting portraits.  We will explore depth of field, freezing and blurring action, composition, light and shadow, perspective and mood.  We will observe what’s unique about our subject, whether we’re photographing someone we’ve just met or someone we are close to, taking a self-portrait or photographing objects that are meaningful to us.   We will consider our perceptions of beauty as influenced by popular culture, look at ideals of beauty through the ages and across different cultures.

A follow up evening session will serve as our end of camp party, when we will gather for a final review of everyone’s best work.  Each student will receive a framed 11x14 print of their favorite image and a portfolio box with 5x7 prints of her best images.
